Two Airmen Complete Basic Training
Air Force Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Jessica M. Barrett and Airman Ryan L. Bennett recently graduated from basic mili- tary training. The graduation ceremony took place at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, in San Antonio, Texas.
The airmen completed an intensive, eight- week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, phys- ical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
They also earned four credits toward an Asso- ciate in Applied Science Degree through the Com- munity College of the Air Force.
Airman 1st Class Barrett is the daughter of Resa M. Walters, of Wesley Chapel, and Rick Walters, of Zephyrhills. She is also the sister of Brandon N. Walters, of Denver, Colorado, and Lexie Walters.
Airman 1st Class Barrett graduated from Wharton High School in 2004. She continued her education at the University of West Florida, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in 2010.
Airman Bennett is the son of Ute and Richard L. Bennett, of Tampa. He graduated from Countryside High School in Clearwater in 2015.

Five Army Enlistees Complete Basic Training
Five U. S. Army enlistees with ties to the Tampa Bay Area recently completed basic train- ing. Private Alexander C. Cespedes, Private Stanley S. Hendricks, Private Daniel A. Orozco, Reserve Private Kevan J. Scurry, and Private Anissa M. Smallwood all participated in their respective graduation cer- emonies at Fort Jackson, in Co- lumbia South Carolina. All of the enlistees graduated from various high schools in 2015.
The enlistees took part in a nine-week training course where they studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field
training exercises.
Private Cespedes is the
grandson of Hilda Cespedes, of Riverview, and Marilyn Buss, of Tampa. He is a gradu- ate of Riverview High School.
Private Hendricks is the son of Cecilia Liles, of Con- cord, NC, and brother of Clarence Daniels, of Tampa. He graduated from Jay M. Robinson, in Concord, NC.
Private Orozco is the son of Francy E. Pelanez-Soto, of Tampa. He graduated from Tampa Bay Technical High School.
Reserve Private Scurry is the son of James Scurry, and grandson of Sylvia Bridges, both of Tampa, and the nephew of Vigletta L. Lawton, of Riverview. He graduated from East Bay High School in 2015.
Private Smallwood is the daughter of Julio and Laura Montes, of Tampa. She gradu- ated from Jefferson High School.
