Critics say that the teen is "not qualified or “Black” enough to play Shana, a black character in the series.
In the pointed essay, Per- rineau, 52, known for his roles in Best Man, Oz, Lost and The Matrix, asks readers to stop looking "to Hollywood define who we are and find ways that we can define ourselves."

When Eddie George came to New York in 1995, he left with the Heisman Trophy.
Twenty years later, he will claim the New York stage again on Broadway.
He is scheduled to perform in "Chicago" as lawyer Billy Flynn.
The show will run from Jan- uary 11-February 28.
George, 42, starred in col- lege at Ohio State before being drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Houston Oil- ers. He earned honors as a four time Pro Bowler with the Tennessee Titans.

In a newly released deposi- tion, a friend and ex-room- mate of Bobbi Kristina Brown‘s claims the star smoked crack and did heroin in the days leading up to her death.
The daughter of the late Whitney Houston and singer Bobby Brown died on July 26 at the age of 22 after she was found uncon- scious in a bathtub and spent months unresponsive in med- ical facilities.
On Monday, a deposition was released in which the for- mer roommate states Bobbi Kristina Brown “smoked marijuana, she probably smoked crack often, and also did heroin” during the last month of her life.

Bobbi Kristina Brown
she lived with Brown, Bobbi Kristina’s boyfriend Nick Gordon and a man named Max Lomas for about a month at a property left to Brown by Houston until Brown was found uncon- scious on Jan. 31, 2015.
Rihanna’s Ex-Publicist Confesses He Made Up RiRi/Jay Z Romance
Rihanna with her boss, Jay Z and Beyonce with her husband, Jay Z.
Don’t always believe what you read, even when it comes from the circle of so-called friends and employees.
The flack who concocted the bogus Rihanna rumor that nearly sank Jay Z’s romance with Beyoncé apologized publicly Friday to the “Single Ladies” singer.
“I apologized to her ... this whole thing is very awkward,” Jonathan Hay said in an email.
Awkward indeed.
Hay, who said he apolo-
gized earlier to Jay Z, has branched out from being Ri- hanna’s publicist to produc- ing his own music. He recently uploaded his project, “When Worlds Collide,” to the fledg- ling music streaming service Tidal, which is owned by Jay Z and Beyoncé.
His belated apology on In- side Edition came after The Daily News obtained a copy of celebrity biographer J. Randy Taraborelli’s tell-all “Becoming Beyoncé: The Un- told Story,” which — among other things — told how he fanned a rumor that Jay Z was cheating with RiRi to give her first single “Pon de Re- play” a boost.
"I was blindsided by the news of ‘Becoming Beyoncé’ coming out and it couldn't come at a worse time for me,” Hay said in a statement. “I'm currently releasing projects with my label Urban Hitch-
cock through Tidal, a company that is owned by Jay Z and Beyoncé ... Hopefully this news hasn't ruined that rela- tionship for me.
Hay did not deny pushing what turned out to be a lie.
“The pr stunt that I did was out of desperation to help break ‘Pon de Replay’," he wrote. “It was reckless and I didn't think it was going to work. I was just throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what would stick.”
But stick it did. And Bey- oncé was so upset she split with Jay Z for a “lonely year” in 2005, Taraborelli wrote.
Hay said he never met Taraborelli but spoke with his researcher.
“I didn't think it would be this big story,” Hay wrote. “But now, seeing Beyoncé on the cover of this book and knowing that people are prof- iting from speculations and opinions about her really turns my stomach.”
“I'm ashamed that I'm even talking about this. I just want to put this rumor to rest once and for all.”
Rihanna was just 17 and low on the Def Jam totem pole when Hay pulled the “stunt.”
Taraborelli wrote that Jay Z’s had just one complaint when the bogus story about him bedding the Barbadian beauty was being spun out.
“Dude, she’s a minor,” he reportedly said.
