Marshawn Lynch Coming
Tony Romo Retires; Heading Into Broadcasting With CBS
TONY ROMO
The Dallas Cowboys have offi- cially released quarterback Tony Romo, who will become the lead NFL analyst for CBS, it was an- nounced Tuesday.
Romo said the Houston Tex- ans were at the top of his wish list if he kept playing, but the CBS offer was too good to pass up.
Romo hasn't come out and said he's retiring.
One NFL executive told re- porters via text message that "Romo is now every team's emergency backup QB in case your starter gets hurt" and that those teams would have to "pay him to come out of 'retirement.'"
Romo said: "You never say never," but added that "there's no part of me that wants to play."
Floyd Mayweather Challenges Judges At Daughter’s Cheer Competition; Throws Son Extravagant Birthday Party
Floyd Mayeather and son, Zion.
APRIL 2nd
Audience members at last Sun- day’s Jamz Cheer and Dance com- petition in Irvine, Calif. witnessed boxer Floyd Mayweather’s dedi- cation to his daughter’s cheerlead- ing craft firsthand.
Mayweather reportedly ap- proached the judge’s table after it was announced that his 12-year- old’s cheerleading team came in second place at the competition.
Event announcer Jeff Krapf said that he overheard the boxer cursing out the judges before yelling, “I fund this program!” after the results were read. Eventually, the executives at the event pulled Mayweather into a private area to discuss the results of the competi- tion away from the kids.
A DAY LATER ON APRIL 3rd
Mayweather, who is no stranger to spending large amounts of money in Las Vegas, gave a lavish party for his now 16-year-old son, Zion.
Zion celebrated with a party grander than you'd see in most Las Vegas nightclubs. Rapper Young Thug performed for Zion and his group of friends and his father lived up to the "Money Mayweather" nickname by gifting him with a blacked-out $31,000 Mercedes- Benz.
School Denies Report Ray Rice Hired As Running Backs Coach
Out Of Retirement; Talks
With Oakland Raiders
It was reported earlier on Monday that Ray Rice had taken a job as a running backs coach for a New Jersey high school. The school has since denied that report.
Rice on Monday met with Mike Teel, the head football coach at Don Bosco Prep High School in New Jersey. It was reported shortly thereafter that Rice had accepted a job as the running backs coach.
Don Bosco representatives have since denied this report. Rice, who grew up in New York and went to college at Rutgers in New Jersey, was a teammate of Teel while at
Rutgers.
Last year, there was a
“growing sense” Rice may get another shot in the NFL. You can read what ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported here. That, however, did not come to be as Rice once again found himself on the outside looking in.
In mid-March, rumblings leaked that Marshawn Lynch would consider com- ing back to the NFL for one team — the Oakland Raiders — who had a mutual interest in the idea of a homecoming for Beastmode.
On Wednesday (Apr. 5), the Oakland native report- edly met with Raiders offi- cials at the team’s facility.
According to ESPN, Lynch reportedly told the Oakland front office that he plans to come out of retire- ment.
There are a number of hurdles that have to get cleared before you see Lynch holding a silver and black jersey.
The 30-year-old received clearance from the Sea- hawks, who still retain his rights, to meet with the Raiders on Wednesday.
Seattle head coach Pete
The man-of-few-words, Marshawn Lynch is talking with the Oakland Raiders.
Carroll met with Lynch, who hasn’t played since early 2016, at the owner’s meet- ings in March and said he’s pondering the idea of a comeback.
Another hurdle would be that the Raiders would have to part with draft picks or take on Lynch’s $9 million cap hit, so they would prefer him to be released by Seattle, so they could negotiate a new contract.
RAY RICE
Now 30 years old, Rice has
reportedly been holding out hope for a return to the field as a player. However, with no one offering him an opportu- nity, it appears we have seen the last of Rice as a profes- sional football player.
A job as a coach would pro- vide Rice the opportunity to pass along knowledge he’s gained over the years and still keep him close to a game he obviously still loves, so it makes sense that he would be interested in such a gig. It re- mains to be seen whether he’ll ultimately be hired.
Warriors Circle Saturday For Kevin Durant's Comeback
Michael Irvin: I Did Not Have Sexual Relations With Accuser
The Golden State Warriors have targeted Saturday night's home game against the New Orleans Pelicans as the return date for Kevin Durant pro- vided that the All-Star forward experiences no setbacks in the final stages of his recovery from a sprained left knee.
Sources told reporters on Monday that Durant's excel- lent progress since suffering a sprained MCL and bruised tibia at Washington on Feb.
KEVIN DURANT
28 has him on course to play in Golden State's final three regular-season games.
Michael Irvin is defend- ing himself against the alle- gations of sexual assault he is facing.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault in Ft. Lauderdale on March 21. Irvin and his attorney put up a staunch defense at the time news of the allega- tion emerged last week. The former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver continues to defend himself, saying he has known the accuser for a long time and is “hurt” by the allega- tion.
“I’ve known her for almost a decade,” Irvin told TMZ Sports in an interview pub- lished on Tuesday. “I’ve never had any kind of dating rela- tionship with her. We’ve never had any kind of sexual relationship in any way, in any form.
“I was hurt to hear about it,” he said of the allegation. “I think that maybe she does- n’t remember and maybe it’s the alcohol. But then I hear she hires this Gloria Allred, who’s a pretty good civil at- torney, and then I’m like maybe I should take it for what it is.”
MICHAEL IRVIN Irvin reiterated to TMZ
that the two have never had a sexual relationship.
“We’ve never had any- thing. We’ve never done any- thing. And I’ve known her for almost a decade.”
Irvin’s attorney says his client was out at a bar with a group of friends including the woman, who then joined him and another man back at his hotel room. He says he was only in his room briefly be- fore leaving for the airport.
The woman reportedly told authorities she felt sick and the last thing she remem- bered was fighting Irvin off. She thought she had been drugged and raped and con- sequently took a medical exam.
Irvin, 51, is currently an analyst for NFL Network.
