Plane Issues Cause Lil Wayne To Cancel Concert Again
Raekwon Honors R&B Icon Marvin Gaye With
The Help Of Ceelo Green
Jordan Peele’s ‘Get Out’ Is Highest Grossing Debut Movie With Original Screenplay
Jordan Peele is first Black writer-director to earn $100M on their first movie.
Raekwon honors R&B icon Marvin Gaye with Ceelo’s help.
On the eve of the anniver- saries for the iconic artists’ birth (April 2) and death (April 1), Raekwon breaks down his heartfelt tribute to Marvin Gaye.
One of the standout tracks from Raekwon’s recently released seventh solo-master- piece, The Wild, is undoubt- edly his heartfelt tribute to Marvin Gaye, simply enti- tled “Marvin” which features Cee-Lo.
With “Marvin,” Raekwon
authors his own audio biogra- phy of the fellow iconic artist, detailing his upbringing, his artistic legacy, his turbulent personal life and his tragic death (at the hands of his own father). As the anniversary of Marvin Gaye’s birth and death both drew near, Raek- won further honored Mar- vin Gaye’s life and his dedication to him by delving into the creative process of the track and where the inspi- ration stemmed from.
Get Out has beaten a nearly 20-year record, becoming the highest-grossing debut for a writer-director, based on an original screenplay.
The psychological horror film has emerged as one of the true stars of 2017, earning a nearly perfect score on Rot- ten Tomatoes and raking in over $150-million in domes- tic sales so far. That puts it past 1999's The Blair Witch Project, which made about $140-million total in the United States.
Jordan Peele has also be- come the first African-Ameri- can writer-director to earn
$100-million on their debut film.
Get Out, which was made on a $4.6-million budget, has been presented as another ex- ample of how successful di- verse stories can be, like Hidden Figures and the Oscar-winning film Moon- light.
In the wake of dismissive comments about how diver- sity turns some people away, like Marvel’s latest debacle, products like Get Out and Ms. Marvel prove that stories about non-white experiences shouldn’t be cast aside over fears of marketability.
