Local New Palm River COGIC Holding Mortgage Burning Service
While in the middle of several transitions, during the peak of COVID-19, this community of committed and resilient people rallied around the prospect of paying off the church mortgage ear- lier than expected. By God’s grace, and the dedication of the members and partners of the church, the mortgage was paid off in November 2020. We are completely debt-free, to God be the glory!

March 20, 1977, dedication services for The Palm River Church - whose name is de- rived from Deuteronomy 34:3 & 11:24 were held. The Pastor and members marched from 741 South 58th Street to the present location of 1304 S. 58th Street.
In April 1986, Minister Willie L. Fowler, Jr. and family came to Palm River. During that time, Elder Mills appointed him Assis- tant Pastor.
After the homegoing of
Elder Ollie Mills, Elder Willie L. Fowler, Jr. was appointed Pastor of the Palm River Church of God in Christ. Through Pastor Fowler’s progressive leader-

ship, the church was incorpo- rated, completed a quarter-
and served the community as a beacon of hope. Under his Pastorate, many ministries and auxiliaries were birthed, sons and daughters raised and released into ministry under his tutelage.
Upon his untimely de- mise, Bishop Matthew J. Williams assumed leader- ship in August of 2018 and provided oversight for the church faithfully until his de- mise in November of 2020.
On July 23rd, 2021,
Bishop Anthony W. Gilyard appointed Elder CJ Fowler as Pastor Desig-
nate of The New Palm River Church of God in Christ.
On October 23rd, Elder CJ Fowler was installed as Senior Pastor. As a son of this house, Elder CJ Fowler continues the rich legacy and history of our great church. We believe that the best is yet to come as the River continues to flow and flourish!

In 1973, Elder Ollie Mills was instructed by God to build a church. Although doubtful and financially un- able, Elder Mills was obedi- ent to the Lord. An ardent support of the vision, Mother Lillie Mae Mills encouraged and assisted her husband in seeing the vision come to pass.
In 1976, through various fundraising efforts and many acts of kindness from family, friends, and co-workers, the church was completed. On
