Early Morning Fire Displaces 12 East Tampa Families
Firefighters responded to the Knollwood Manor Apartment Complex early Monday. At least 12 apartments were damaged.
The City of Tampa Fire De- partment responded to a fire that left at least 12 families dis- placed. The fire took place at an East Tampa apartment complex and the cause of the blaze is still under investiga- tion.
According to a spokesper- son for the Tampa Fire Depart- ment, the blaze at the Knollwood Manor Apartment Complex was reported at 5:07 a.m. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the heavy smoke and flames were coming from
the roof of 2932 Rockaway Court. Firemen began battling the blaze as the flames came from the south side of the two- story concrete block building.
Crews called for a second alarm because of the size and location of the building.
Investigators determined the fire possibly started in the back of the building. However, they have not determined what caused the fire.
The spokesman said the building houses 12 apartments and all of the residents were
accounted for. No injuries were reported by residents or fire personnel. One resident said she awoke to the sound of her smoke alarm going off.
The roof of the building was totally destroyed. Fire- fighters were able to contain the fire to that building and no other units were damaged.
The American Red Cross provided assistance to the res- idents displaced by the fire.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, of- ficials said.
