Winners Chosen In Fifth Portable Shuffleboard Tournament
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On Friday, the Ragan Park Shuffleboard Team held their monthly competition. The event was held at the Barksdale Community Center at McFarlane Park.
The first place winners of the event this month were Ms. Linda Cotney and Ms. Connie Bowen. The second place winners were: Ms. Pearl James and Ms. Estelle Acree.
Steve Scott is the trainer for the senior citizens wishing to take part in the monthly event.
Each month, he sponsors shuffleboard tournaments. The first and second place winners each win a gift card.
The teams use temporary shuffleboards to play during the month. Scott hopes to acquire a permanent shuffleboard for East Tampa residents. The group currently meets at Ragan Park, 1200 E. Lake Avenue, three times per week.
Scott said he also trains seniors at Williams Park and Fair Oaks on Thursdays, and at Spring Hill on Mondays. He said all of those facilities have portable shuffleboards as well.
Scott said the event is not sponsored by the City of Tampa and he hopes someone in the community will help sponsor the monthly tournaments by providing the gift cards.
Anyone wishing to learn more about shuffleboard matches or other senior activities at Ragan Park can call Ms. Betty Bell or Steve Scott at (813) 242-5316.
