Our Military Men And Women
Three U. S. Army Enlistees Complete Training
Three individuals with ties to the Tampa Bay Area have com- pleted basic military training. Private Jacorbe E. Davis, Private First Class Christopher A. Valdes-Torres, and Private Kevin Vargas all participated in their respective graduation cere- monies at Fort Jackson, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Private Davis, Private First Class Valdes-Torres, and Private Vargas completed a nine week training course that fo- cused on the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, phys- ical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and un- armed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exer- cises.
Private Davis is the son of April Mason, of New Orleans, LA., and the brother of Christina Collins, of Tampa. He graduated from Chamberlain High School in 2014.
Private First Class Valdes-Torres is the son of Juan and Lupe Valdes, of Tampa. He graduated from Gaither High School in 2012.
Private Vargas is the son of Silenys Garabito, of Tampa, and Henry Vargas, of Wildwood, New Jersey. He graduated from Jef- ferson High School in 2014.
Enlistee Enters Military Delayed Entry Program
Jose D. Maceira has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program.
The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.
The enlistment gives the new soldier the option to learn a new skill, travel and become eligible to receive as much as $53,028 to- ward a college education through the Montgomery GI Bill. For those who qualify, new soldiers can earn up to $65,000 for student loan repayment. After completion of basic military training, soldiers re- ceive advanced individual training in their career job specialty.
He will report to Fort Sill, Oklahoma, for basic training in July 2015.
Maceira is the son of Marie Flores, of Tampa Bay, and nephew of Efrain Gonzalez, of Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin.
Four Enlistees Complete Basic Air Force Training
Four individuals from the Tampa Bay Area recently completed all requirements for basic military training in the U. S. Air Force. They completed their training at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lack- land, in San Antonio, Texas.
Airman Symone K. Kisting-Fisher, Airman Nathan R. Glidden, Airman Reserve Airman First Class Laura G. Bonilla Ospina, and Airman First Class Matthew E. Socks completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fit- ness, and basic warfare principles and skills.
Each Airman also earned four credits toward an Associate in Ap- plied Science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Airman Kisting-Fisher is the stepdaughter of Tonikka Pearson, of Sacramento, California, and the sister of Terrell Kist- ing-Fisher, of Abilene, Texas. She is also the granddaughter of Roger Fisher, of Dubuque, Iowa, and Cora Williams, of Rancho Cordova, California, niece of Shonda Wyatt, of Tampa, and cousin of Terrica Smith, of Orlando.
She graduated from Cordova High School, in Rancho Cordova, California, in 2014.
Airman Glidden is the son of Vaughn Glidden, of Lebanon, Maine, and Jammie Papke, of Tampa. He graduated from Cham- berlain High School in 2013.
Reserve Airman First Class Bonilla Ospina is the daugh- ter of Santiago J. Bonilla, of Tampa, and Jenny L. Ospina, of Lexington, South Carolina. She is also the sister of Santiago A. Bonilla, of Charleston, South Carolina, and cousin of Sebastian J. Duke, of Columbia, South Carolina, Lucas C. Austin, of Gas- ton, South Carolina, and Juliana J. Bravo, of West Columbia, South Carolina. Airman First Class Bonilla Ospina graduated from Lexington High School, in Lexington, South Carolina, in 2011. She earned an Associate Degree from Midlands Technical College, in West Columbia, South Carolina, in 2015.
Airman First Class Socks is the son of Pascale and Todd E. Socks, and grandson of Elaine and Gerald Charlier, all of In- dianapolis, Indiana. He is also the grandson of David and Janet Glaser, of Cicero, Indiana, nephew of Hansy Charlier, of Glen- view, Illinois, and cousin of Daniel Rodriguez, of Tampa. He graduated from Lawrence North High School, in Indianapolis, In- diana, in 2009, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern Indiana, in Evansville, Indiana, in 2014.
