Homegoing celebration for Mr. Willie Eugene “Baldy” Thompson, who passed away on June 24, 2015, in Miami, FL, will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015, at 10 a. m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, with Supt. Clethen Sutton of Miracle Temple COGIC, officiating. Inter- ment will follow in Florida National Cemetery on Mon- day, July 6, 2015.
“Baldy” was predeceased by: his parents, Lillie Mae McCall and Arthur Hinton; father, Leroy Thompson; wife, Bertie Carey Thomp- son; brother, Robert Thomp- son; brother-in-law, George E. Rockwell, Sr.; and nephew, George E. Rockwell, Jr.

in Tampa and Miami, FL. Mr. Willie “Baldy” Thomp- son was born on May 6, 1925, to the parentage of LillieMae McCall and Arthur Hinton in Tampa. As a child, he at- tended Morning Star Baptist Church. Later he joined Saint Paul A. M. E. Church, Miami, FL, until the time of his pass- ing. He was educated in the schools of Hillsborough County and graduated from Middleton High School in 1945, where he gained the nickname “Baldy” on the
basketball court.
After graduating from
high school, he gained em- ployment with Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, Washington, D.C.HeservedintheU.S. Army, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant. He retired from Amtrak after 38 years of service.
He married Bertie Carey on August 31, 1972. “Baldy” was a loving father. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he was a kind person to all who knew him.
There will be a viewing on Thursday July 2, 2015, from 5-8 p. m. with family present from 6-7 p. m. at Wilson Fu- neral Home.
Friends are asked to as- semble at the funeral home at approximately 9:45 a. m. on Friday for the service.

MS. CECELIA WINIFRED MARTINEZ
Ms. Cecelia Winifred Mar- tinez went to be with her Heavenly Father on July 19, 2015, at the age of 66, in Tampa.
Cecelia, is survived by: her sister, Frances C. Martinez; brothers, Michael A. Mar- tinez and Joseph G. Mar- tinez; nephews, Michael A. Cummings and John M. Mar- tinez; and nieces, Katie Megan and Elizabeth Mar- tinez.
She was preceded in death by: her father, John Mar- tinez; mother, Eunice Brant- ley Martinez; and sister, Yvette M. Cummings.
Cecelia was born on April 18, 1949, in Tampa, to John and Eunice Martinez, and was the oldest of five chil- dren.
She attended St. Peter Claver Catholic School and graduated from Tampa Catholic High School. She then pursued her college ed- ucation at Central State Uni- versity, where she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s De- gree in Education. After completing her education, she pursued her love and passion for teaching within the public school system in Buffalo, New York.
She then returned home to Tampa with that same com- passion and love. She worked for the State of Florida’s Department of Dis- ability Determination, where she would subsequently re- tire.
A devout Catholic, Cecelia was an active and faithful member of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church. She was also an extremely proud and committed member of The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incor- porated and Marti-Maceo Cuban Club. All those that had the privilege and honor to know her, knew she could often be found enjoying a good murder mystery. Ce- celia enjoyed watching movies, but her happiest times were spending quality time surrounded by friends, family, and loved ones, espe- cially her nephews, Michael Cummings and John Mar- tinez.
Her radiant smile and gen- uine warmth will truly be missed by all. May she rest in Heavenly Peace.

Family Of Arthur Green, Jr. Announce Community Conversations Series
THE LATE ARTHUR GREEN, JR.
Family members of the late Mr. Arthur Green, Jr. who died a year ago in the custody of Tampa Police, is announcing a series of dis- cussions called “Community Conversations.”
Since Mr. Green’s death, the Young-Green family, long-time community organ- izers and activists, have initi- ated several efforts to educate and help other citi- zens avoid the fate of their loved one.
The next effort will be a se- ries of community discus- sions specifically focused on bringing more attention to Mr. Green’s story, examin- ing the circumstances that led to his death, exploring other issues within the area where Mr. Green lived and died, and identifying com- munity’s responsibilities and positive steps to improve un- equal conditions in mostly African American neighbor- hoods. The first discussion will assess patterns of injus- tice and inequality under Mayor Bob Buckhorn’s administration.
The Community Conversa- tion Series will be directed by the son of Mr. Green, Dr. Kurt B. Young. Dr. Young is recognized as a leading scholar in the fields of Political Science and Africana Studies. He is Chair of the Department of Political Science at Clark Atlanta Uni- versity and is a graduate of Hillsborough High School. He earned a Bachelor’s de- gree from the University of Florida, where he also played football.
Before joining CAU, Dr. Young served as Associate Professor of Political Science and African American Stud- ies at the University of Cen- tral Florida for almost 10 years, and previously taught at Spelman College and Morehouse College.
