Couple Charged With Battery On A Law Enforcement Officer
Man Suffering Mental Episode Taken Into Custody
Early Monday, Tampa Po- lice safely apprehended a man suffering from a mental episode. He was taken into cus- tody under the Baker Act.
According to police, an offi- cer observed the 30-year-old man driving his pickup truck in the southbound lane of N. 21st Street and E. Adamo Dr.
The officer pulled beside the man and the man appeared
frantic and was yelling, “they are going to kill me.”
Officers attempted to stop the truck several times, but were unable to. After following the vehicle for 22 minutes at low speeds and with it having 3 flat tires, the man stopped at Grady and Waters.
There were injuries. How- ever, several police cars sus- tained damage.
On Wednesday, June 24th at 11:50 a.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies re- ported that allegedly Gren- isha Samuels, 22, stabbed John Wright on his left ear causing a laceration to form from his inside earlobe to the outside earlobe.
Wright reportedly called the Sheriff’s Office and when deputies arrived he escorted them to 1335 Baywatch Loop where the incident occurred.
Deputies knocked on the door, and after several min- utes, Laurence Wyatte opened the door. Wyatte re- portedly told deputies Samuels was home, but he wasn’t going to let them in- side.
Deputies said Wyatte tried to shut the door, but the door was blocked from being shut.
Deputies entered the resi- dence and found Samuels hiding in a back bedroom un- derneath a blanket on a bed. She allegedly tried to run but was stopped. When deputies tried to arrest her, she report- edly resisted, punched one of

the deputies and intentionally bumped into another with her chest in an effort to get away.
While deputies were trying to control Samuels, Wyatte reportedly was yelling and screaming at them to get out of his apartment. He was told several times to backup and not interfere.
While deputies were trying to gain control of Samuels, Wyatte came out of the bed- room and allegedly punched a deputy in the face. The deputy fell against a sofa and Wyatte reportedly straddled the deputy and punched him sev- eral times. Deputies then tried
to utilize their Electronic Con- trol Devices to control him, but he reportedly tried to rip the prongs out of his chest and stand up. Deputies were fi- nally able to gain control of Samuels and Wyatte, and they were handcuffed.
Samuels was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, battery on a law enforcement officer, re- sisting arrest with violence, and three counts of violation of probation.
Wyatte was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence.
