On Thursday, staff and residents alike will help a Tampa woman celebrate her birthday. But, this isn’t just any birthday for the Tampa woman, it’s her 100th birth- day.
Life for Mrs. Paralee Green began in Sumpter, South Carolina, on July 23, 1915. Mrs. Green was raised in that city until she began a teenager. It was dur- ing that time that her family moved to Tampa.
Mrs. Green attended Booker T. Washington High School and later married James (Jimmy) Curtis Green. The couple was mar- ried for more than 60 years and lived in the Progress Vil- lage section of Tampa.
After settling in Progress
Village, Mrs. Green be- came the mother of one daughter, Mrs. Juliett Vasquez. She was em- ployed at Maas Brothers for more than 40 years.
After ending her working career, Mrs. Green spent her adult life as a stay-at- home mother and home- maker. She enjoyed cooking, being homemaker and spending time with her three grandchildren, Ms. Julie Holliday, Kip Vasquez, and Ms. Michelle White. She also welcomed the ar- rival of her three great grandsons.
While living in Progress Village, Mrs. Green was a member of the 29th Street of Christ for more than 60 years. One of the things she took great stock in was mak- ing sure that the neighbor- hood children went to church.
Today, she is a member of Northside Church of Christ and enjoys listening to gospel music.
For the past 14 years, Mrs. Green has been a res- ident at Ruby’s Residential Care Assisted Living Facility and that is where her family and friends will gather to help her celebrate her birth- day on Thursday.
One of her caregivers, Ms. Anita Pierce said, “She is known as the Beauti- ful Lady with the infectious smile” at the center.
