One Suspect Charged With Multiple Murders Within Same Family; 2 Others Charged Too
On June 8, 2021, a 22-year- old Tampa man crashed his car on I-275 near Sligh Avenue. When investigating officers ar- rived at the scene, they disco- vered that Lance Henry James, Jr., had been shot and his 2015 Dodge Challenger was riddled with bullets.
Tampa Fire Rescue trans- ported James to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he died.
On Friday, nearly a year after the fatal shooting, Tampa Police have arrested two men and a teenager and charged them with the murder of James.
Detectives arrested Raphael Tyree Thomas, 23, of Tampa; Tyrone James El- lison, 23, of Tampa; and 17- year-old Dontae Moses Turner, of Tampa.
Thomas was already in jail in Sumter County on murder and aggravated battery with a firearm charges. Those charges stemmed from a June 21, 2021 shooting in the Wildwood, FL area investigated by Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. That shooting took place at an annual Father’s Day event held by the

Police said, Rapheal Tyree
Thomas, and 25-year-old Cornecia Quanshay Smikle, both of Tampa, encountered each other at the event.
At some point, shots rang out and ten people were injured by gunfire. Ms. Cornecia Smikle was fatally wounded. Among the others shot were Louis Carr, V, 20, uncle of Lance Henry James, Jr. An- other person was also critically-
injured. The injuries of the other victims ranged from being treated and released to being in stable condition.
Thomas allegedly shot into the large crowd using a a 9 mm firearm.
After the shooting, Thomas reportedly began running away from the scene. He threw the firearm away and tried to hide under a vehicle. However, he was taken into custody. A wit- ness told police that Thomas
was a suspect in the murder of a Tampa man, who was a relative of hers.
In the Tampa shooting, de- tectives continued to develop leads in their investigation, de- veloping probable cause that linked Raphael Tyree Thomas, Tyrone James Elli- son, and Dontae Moses Turner 04) to the shooting of Lance James, Jr.
Thomas was charged with conspiracy to commit murder in the first-degree, murder in the
first-degree, and shooting into a vehicle.
Tyrone James Ellison, Jr. and Dontae Moses Turner were also currently in- carcerated on unrelated firearm possession warrants.

Police Search For Suspects Who Attacked Worker About Food Error

Detectives with the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office deputies are looking for two sus- pects who brutally attacked a Steak ‘n Shake employee.
According to police, on April 26, two females entered the Steak ‘n Shake at 5917 E Hills- borough Ave. to complain about a food error on their order. A ver- bal altercation with a restaurant worker ensued, and the females entered an employee-only area and repeatedly struck the worker with closed fists to the head and face. Attempting to defend her- self, the victim fought back with the two female suspects as the fight moved out into the restaurant lobby.
As the victim fell to the ground, the suspects continued to kick her head. One suspect pulled a black handgun out and threatened to shoot her. The sus- pects then fled in a silver 2007- 2009 Honda CRV.
The victim suffered a concus- sion, contusions, and lacerations to her forehead, upper lip, wrist, and left knee. She was trans- ported to Tampa General Hospi- tal.
The first woman is described
as a heavy set female, approxi- mately 5’8”, 200 pounds. She was wearing a black short sleeve t-shirt (with a white Nike check on the front left chest), large black basketball shorts (large white Nike check on the front left leg), black hair cover (durag), gold necklace with large gold charm, white ankle socks and black (white Puma logo on top) slide sandals.
The second suspect is de- scribed as a woman with a large build, approximately 5’6”, 170 pounds with long blonde hair ex- tensions (worn in two ponytails). She was wearing a light red or pink zip-up sweater, white jeans, and a red hairband holding her

hair in place.
