Stepdad Charged With Violent Murder Of 7-Year-Old
Detectives have arrested a Tampa man and charged him with the death of his stepson. The child died Saturday.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, shortly before 11 a.m., Satur- day, Jack Junior Mont- gomery called 9-1-1 and reported his 7-year-old stepson wouldn’t wake up and wasn’t breathing.
Montgomery was caring for the child, identified as Brice Russell, and his three siblings at the Master’s Inn, 6010 State Road 579, Room 205. When Hillsborough County Fire Rescue arrived, they found the child lying in the bed. He was pronounced dead at 10:59 a.m.
Detectives determined that Montgomery had allegedly punched the child in the face, mouth and stomach with a closed fist, threw the vic- tim around the hotel room and
picked Russell up by the leg and threw him against a shelf along the wall. The children told detectives they saw blood coming from Russell’s mouth and that he never woke up after that.
The Medical Examiner’s Office determined the victim’s death a result of homicidal violence, investiga-
tors said.
Montgomery was ar-
rested Sunday afternoon on his 31st birthday at the corner of E. Chelsea and Courtland. He was charged with felony first-de- gree murder, aggravated child abuse, and two counts of child abuse. He is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail with- out bond.
