To Rest Over Weekend

A 37-year-old pastor who died on August 12, 2016, will be laid to rest this weekend. Apostle Christopher Reed Evans, Sr. will be laid to rest on Saturday, August 27, 2016, 2 p. m. at Cathedral of Faith Church. Ray Williams Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Apostle Evans, Sr., had been hospitalized earlier this year with heart and kidney problems. He started his preaching career at the age of 7 under his grandmother, Pastor Julia Evans, 87, of Holy Hill of Zion Church. Ac- cording to his mother, Ms. Ida Evans, Apostle Evans, Sr., even traveled to New York for a preaching engage- ment at the age of 7. When he 13 years old, he appeared on Cable TV shows.

the Ft. Lauderdale Art Insti- tute for 1-1/2 years before re- turning to Tampa and earning a B. A. degree from the Art In- stitute of Tampa.
After graduating from the Art Institute, he started his own ministry under his grandmother’s church. His church was Temple Of Deliv- erance, Tampa.
In addition to his mother and grandmother, Apostle Evans, Sr., a divorcee, is sur- vived by 3 children, an older sister and his grandfather, Scott Evans, Sr.

Newkirk Passes Shortly
After 65th Birthday

Pastor Ernest Newkirk, the middle sibling of the Newkirk children, passed away on Friday, Au- gust 19, 2016, in the care of LifePath Hospice. He had cel- ebrated his 65th birthday on August 7th.
Pastor Newkirk fol- lowed his father in death by 18 months. Bishop Eddie Newkirk passed on Febru- ary 14, 2015. Pastor Newkirk had been the care- giver for his father and mother, Pastor Audrey Newkirk, at their home in St. Petersburg.
Pastor Ernest is a grad- uate of Gibbs High School, Class of 1969. Professionally, he was the Superintendent of E&A Construction, a masonry and construction firm owned by his parents. He was a part of the business for more than

30 years.
He was a member of
Friendship M. B. Church (where the family origi- nated), St. Petersburg, before becoming a member of St. John Cathedral 48 years ago. He had been in the ministry for more than 20 years. At St. John he worked with Noah’s Outreach Ministry.
“He will be greatly missed, said his sister-in-law, Artest Newkirk. “He will mostly be remembered for his conta- gious laugh. You didn’t have to be in the room with him to know that laugh,” she said.
In addition to his siblings, 3 brothers and a sister, Pas- tor Newkirk is survived by a son, Eric, and other family members.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Au- gust 27, 2016, 11 a. m. at St. John Cathedral. (See Funeral Notices)
