A 44-year-old man was given a lengthy prison sen- tence for having a gun and ammunition. His past re- flects several felony arrests, which prohibits him from having a gun.
U. S. District Judge Mary Scriven sentenced Ronald Stephenson, of Pal- metto, to 15 years in prison. He was elevated to the status of “Armed Career Criminal” as a result of his prior felony record or serious drug charges.
The Court also ordered him to forfeit a gun that had been traced to the offense.
Stephenson pleaded guilty to the charges on Feb- ruary 10, 2017.
According to court docu- ments, in May 2016, officers responded to Stephen- son’s home in Palmetto after he allegedly assaulted his live-in girlfriend and threatened to kill her.

While at the home, the officers located and seized a loaded .22 caliber revolver inside Stephenson’s resi- dence. He was arrested and later admitted that he pos- sessed the firearm and had hidden it under a bedroom mattress.
At the time of the offense, Stephenson was a con- victed felon on state proba- tion for attempted first-degree murder.
