Police Investigate
Murder Suspect Arrested After Standoff With Police
Murder Of
Tampa Teenager
A 39-year-old man is being held without bond at the Hillsborough County Jail. He is being held in connec- tion with a Tampa woman.
According to the Tampa Police Department, officers responded to the Super Shop Gas Station, 3401 E. Lake Av- enue, in reference to a woman being shot Saturday night. When the officers ar- rived, they found the victim and began administering first aid. The Tampa Fire Depart- ment responded and contin- ued administering life-saving measures. However, they were unsuccessful and the victim died.
She has been identified as
Ms. Metosha D. Godwin,
50, of Tampa. Police said a suspect who was known to the victim was identified.
Police began an extensive search for the suspect and lo- cated him shortly after 2 a.m., Sunday. When Tampa Police arrived at the intersec- tion of N. 20th Street and E. Fletcher Avenue, the suspect refused to surrender and a standoff took place.
Tampa Police contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office for assistance. The Sheriff’s Office helped secure the perimeter and em- ployed their air service unit.

Family and friends of a teenager killed Friday evening in East Tampa held a candlelight vigil on Saturday. However, the vigil was inter- rupted after someone drove by in a vehicle and fired sev- eral shots.
According to the Tampa Police Department, officers responded to the intersection of N. 36th Street and E. Shad- owlawn shortly after 5 p.m., in reference to gunshots being fired in the area. The responding officers discov- ered that 18-year-old Antwan Tremaine Jen- rette, Jr., was lying on the ground, suffering from gun- shot wounds.
Officers administered first aid and Jenrette was transported to Tampa Gen- eral Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.
Candlelight Vigil Held
The following evening, his family members and friends gathered at the inter- section to host a candlelight vigil for the teenager.
A spokesperson for the Tampa Police Department said, “We did receive a call about shots being fired at the vigil. But, when we got there,

no one had been hit, there were no shell casings, and the people were not coopera- tive.”
He further said that one young lady had a cut on her foot, but said she had been injured running after the shots were fired.
No arrests have been made in the murder and the investigation is continuing.

fied as 39-year-old Sol William Hoke, of East Tampa. Hoke was charged with pre-meditated first-de- gree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Ms. Godwin was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie Harris and Willie Godwin. A native of Newark, NJ, she was raised in Tampa and graduated from Middleton High School.
Mrs. Harris said she was the oldest of her three children and was the mother of 4 and grandmother to 5.
She was the kind of per- son who would give you the shirt off of her back. She would help anyone she could —- family, friend, or stranger. She fed the homeless and helped them. She was just a good-hearted person. There is nothing bad to be said

about her. She was so full of love and caring. She liked to laugh and she liked to make others laugh.”
Mrs. Harris said Ms. Godwin supported herself as a licensed hair braider and worked by going to the peo- ple rather than having a shop.
She said her daughter en- joyed softball and working with children.
Mrs. Harris said Ms. Godwin had been dating Hoke for the last 8 or 10 years.
The last time she talked with her daughter was on Fri- day. But, Mrs. Harris said she knew that her daughter was afraid of him. “She told me, ‘If anything ever happen to me, you know what to do and who is responsible,’” Mrs. Harris said.
Funeral services for Ms. Godwin were incomplete at press time.
Robbery Suspect Stabbed By Store Clerk
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is currently in- vestigating a robbery in which the suspect was injured. The incident took place Sunday at the Sunoco Service Station, 14516 N. 22nd Street.
According to police, the man entered the store around 5:45 a.m., and demanded a money bag. The man and the store clerk became engaged in

a struggle over a baseball bat that was behind the counter.
The suspect took the bat from the clerk and at that point, the clerk stabbed the man in the abdomen. The clerk and the suspect contin- ued to struggle until the clerk ran from the store and noti- fied police.
The man is described as being 5’8” to 5’10” and weigh- ing 180 to 200 pounds. He was bald and was last seen wearing blue jean shorts.
