Tampa Teen Is Finalist In National ‘Miss Teen’ Pageant
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
Each year, young ladies from throughout the nation compete in pageants to represent their re- spective communities. The event will take place on Sunday, July 26th, at 4:30 p.m., at the Palla- dium Theater, 253 5th Avenue, North, St. Peters- burg, FL 33701.
On Sunday, July 26th, Ms. Regina Sheri Williams will vie for the title of “Miss Teen Tampa.” The winner will compete for the na- tional title in Orlando.
Ms. Sheri Brown, Regina’s mother said her daughter was nominated anonymously to compete in the pageant. “We are still trying to find out who nominated her. But because of the type of personality she has, she is a great fit for it.”
She recently learned that she has been ac- cepted as a finalist in the competition. More than one hundred young ladies entered the competi- tion. By process of elimination, the number of competitors was reduced to 20. The list of final- ists range between 12 and 15 young ladies in the Miss Teen Division.
The competition routine includes modeling, casual wear, formal wear, and a series of inter- views. However, personality is one of the pri- mary aspects each contestant is judged on during all phases of the competition.
At 17, Regina is an incoming senior at Robinson High School, when the new school year begins. After graduation, she hopes to at- tend Bethune-Cookman University as a Broad- cast Journalism major.
Regina is employed, but enjoys basketball and track and field in her spare time.
REGINA WILLIAMS
... Competing for Miss Teenage Tampa title
If Regina is successful in her bid for Miss Teen Tampa, she will go on to compete on the national level. The national competition will take place in Orlando and Regina will be competing for more than $30,000.00 in prizes and awards.
Each contestant that makes it to the national competition will enjoy an expense paid trip of five nights and six days in Orlando.
However, Regina needs to obtain sponsor- ship from community businesses, organizations, and private individuals. Through sponsorship, each contestant receives all of the necessary training, rehearsals, and financial support needed to excel in the competition.
Ms. Brown said, “Even if she doesn’t win, this is such an experience for her.”
