   The Enemy Within
   ast weekend, director
Spike Lee released his latest theatrical project enti- tled Black Klansman. It is a film inspired by actual events that took place during the 1970s when a Black cop, with the assistance of another white officer, infiltrated a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
In a recent interview, Lee stated that he felt the movie's entrance into the cinematic landscape couldn't be any more timely considering the current hostile environment within the country. To Lee the recent resurgence of hate groups, egged on by a presi- dent whose constant sound bites gives them confidence to aggressively pursue their agendas, makes the issue of combating organized racism as relevant today as it was 40 years ago.
Of course, the irony is that while Lee's new joint allows us see the parallels between the type of bigotry that was going on then and what is still occurring now the violence that transpired in Chicago a few days prior to the Klans- man premiere, where 72 peo- ple were shot and 12 killed during a 48 hour period (with not one of the perpetrators
being a white supremacist), showed that Black communi- ties across the country face an aggressor even more danger- ous than those cowards who hide behind white robes and hoods.... Their own people.
Whenever I hear about Blacks killing Blacks in such egregious fashion I often won- der why groups like the Klan, Neo-Nazis or the Aryan Broth- erhood even still exist?
To be honest, if I were a member of any one of those groups I would simply fall back because it wouldn't make any sense for me to continue to risk getting my hands dirty when the people who I most want destroyed are more than willing to do the job for me.
In the past we've looked at these clandestine organiza- tions as threats to our quality of life and have been willing to face them head on at events like the one held in Washing- ton, D.C. on Sunday. Yet, at the same time, we've also con- tinuously given a pass to the individuals in our own neigh- borhoods who place our lives and the lives of our children in jeopardy on a daily basis.
You would think that the monster next door would be of more concern to us than the one who usually only attacks if
you enter his lair. But, for some strange reason, we seem incapable of seeing things that way.
As much as it is a just cause to protest and fight against those who openly call for our demise and the systemic prob- lem of police brutality in the Black community, I imagine it's hard for a person on the outside looking in to under- stand how much Black lives actually matter when Blacks don't appear to know that value themselves. I mean, when confronted with exam- ples like the killings in Chi- Town, how do you effectively make the argument that any- one else should be concerned?
In order to make someone else care about whether or not you live or die, you have to prove that you care about yourself first. This means holding Blacks who kill other Blacks, unjustifiably, to the same deplorable standard that those of other races are held to who commit the same crime.
Until that happens it doesn't matter how many movies are produced that expose racists institutions, how many NFL players protest the National Anthem or the number of marches for justice in which we participate. History will al- ways judge us as hypocrites who never developed the courage to confront the enemy within.

     Tariffs Are Another Booby Prize
f you’ve been wondering what the Trump adminis-
tration’s hoopla about tariffs is all about and how it affects you, let us explain it, once and for all.
First, of all, a tariff is simply a tax countries pay to import or export products – manufacturing, food, cars, lumber, seafood, and just about everything else you can think of. Planned increases in tariffs, especially with our closest trading partners, have angered many of them and they have levied tariff increases on Amer- ican goods and products in retaliation.
For instance, the trade war involves Canada, Brazil, the European Union, Korea, and other countries. How does this affect you? Well, if you plan on buying a house, or a car, expect to pay more for them because the cost of lumber and steel is rising by more than 30% and an increase of 25% tariff on automobiles.
Moreover, lumber costs for lamps and furniture for your home will become more expensive. In addition, if you like outdoor grilling, expect to pay more than $300 more for them. On your next trip to the store, expect to pay more for liquor, Alaskan and Chinese seafood; Mexican pork, fruit and cheese, and for aluminum foil.
Meanwhile, farmers will be hit hard in fruit grow- ing, cattle ranching, grain and dairy trade. In fact, fam- ily farming may become a thing of the past.
Yes, Trump did tell another “big one” when he claimed increased tariffs would protect American workers. Instead, the tariffs will negatively impact American security, jobs, and the global economy.
Yes, the tariffs are another Trump-sent Trojan horse that should have been left by the waterfront.
  Respect Your Money
“In life you attract what you respect...even money.”
Paula White Cain
mpowered Greet-
ings. Respect your money is the topic of discus- sion for today's column. I would like for you to be posi- tioned to win financially. To win with money you must un- derstand the notion that if you don't respect your money, your money won't respect you.
The value that you place on money or your finances will be shown or made evitable by how you respect or deal with your money.
Please note and under- stand that you are not to love money. For the love of money is the root of all evil.
However, there is nothing
wrong with having plenty of money or desiring to have more money than you cur- rently have. Nonetheless, it doesn't matter how large or small your money bag is, just know that you should respect and value money by being a good steward or manager of the money you do possess.
Oftentimes my articles are designed to challenge readers to develop themselves to rise above their current situation to reach for something more, something bigger and some- thing better. I do this because when you develop yourself in a particular area, it empowers you to succeed in that area, if you apply the knowledge that you have gained.
Many of you have ex- pressed that you want to de- velop yourselves financially.
To do so, you must become fi- nancially savvy. As you be- come financially savvy you must identify your perspective on money in the following 3 areas.
• How you deal with money • What you think about
money
• The usefulness of money
to you
If you are not attracting
money to you or winning fi- nancially, then it's time for a mental shift. It's time for you to renew your mind as it per- tains to your finances.
In upcoming columns, I am going to share tips and strategies to position you to win financially.
