FAMILY NOTICE
MR. JOHN H. HOUSTON, JR.
Mr. John H. Houston, Jr. lived an enduring life; from the battlefield to the neigh- borhood barbershop.
His journey began October 30, 1914, when he was born to the late John H. and Melissa Houston of Palatka, FL. They later moved to Sanford, FL, where he attended the public schools and finished his education in Hillsborough County Schools.
On November 4, 1938, John married his soulmate, Lillie Mae Johnson, who pre- ceded him in death in 1998.
While serving in the United States Army from 1942-1946 and fighting for his country in World War II, John Henry Houston received the Presi- dential Award and 3 Battle Stars representing his brav- ery and dedication.
He learned to cut hair while being stationed in Saipan. Mr. Houston contin- ued to cut hair when he came home from WWII, opening his own barbershop (The Lin- coln Barber Shop) on the His- toric Central Avenue. This was followed up by another successful barbershop in Cen- tral Park at the Longshore- man's Hall, where he cut hair until his last customer passed away.
John confessed his belief in Christ at an early age and joined Allen Temple AME Church, where he was a mem- ber for over 60 years. He served on several Boards and sang in the Gospel Choir. He remained a faithful member until Sunday, May 1, 2016, when he departed this life.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory: a daughter, Easter (Etta) Houston-Curry; son, John Michael Houston; a grandson, Corey C. Curry; four great grandchildren, Ciara, Jordayn, Corey, II and BrookeLynn Curry; two sis- ters, Juanita Fudge and Ruth Patton (Rudolph) from At- lanta, Georgia; sister-in-law, Deoris Sally, Arcadia FL; a very devoted friend, Rev. Re- becca Kearney; and a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He lived and he died, very peacefully, with much dignity love and compassion for everyone, surrounded by his loving family.
Praise the Lord in all His glory, it is well with His soul. AMEN.
The homegoing services for Mr. John H. Houston will be conducted Saturday, May 7,2016at11a.m.atAllen Temple A. M. E. Church, 2101 N. Lowe St., Tampa, with Rev. Dr. David W. Green, Sr., pas- tor, officiating. Interment will follow in Myrtle Hill Ceme- tery. THERE WILL BE NO WAKE ON FRIDAY NIGHT.
The remains will repose at 10 a. m., Saturday morning at Allen Temple A. M. E.
Friends and family are asked to assemble at the church Saturday approxi- mately 10:45 a. m. for service.

MRS. CORA MAE DEWBERRY NELSON
A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Cora Mae Dewberry Nelson, 96, who passed away in her home in North Las Vegas, NV, surrounded by her family on April 24, 2016 will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016at11a.m.atSt.John Cathedral, 3401 E. 25th Av- enue, Tampa, with Pastor Dwight Newkirk, officiating. Interment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Ceme- tery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and four sisters.
Cora is survived by: her children, Thomas Nelson (Valarie) of North Las Vegas, NV, and Terry Nelson of Greensboro, NC; grand- daughters, Angel Spivey of Bainbridge, GA, Shantana Nelson of Tampa, and Sher- rell Cotton of Tampa; grand- son, Fredrick Nelson of North Las Vegas, NV; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Jerry Dewberry (Peggy) of Griffin, GA, and Samuel Dew- berry (Della) of Greensboro, NC; a host of nieces and nephews.
Cora was born on March 27, 1920, in Barnesville, GA, to the parentage of Thomas and Pearl Dewberry. Looking for a fresh start, Cora moved to Orlando, FL, where she welcomed two children and set out teaching them com- passion and hard work.
Cora relocated to Tampa, where she was employed with the School District of Hills- borough County. While in Tampa, she was an active member of the Lily White Or- ganization and an active and dedicated member of St. John Cathedral Church.
After serving the School District for more than 30 years, she retired and moved to Greensboro, NC, where she became an active member of White Oak Baptist Church.
Cora became a resident of North Las Vegas in Septem- ber, 2003, where she became active with the Lied’s Senior Center and attended New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Her family will remember her as a driven and patient woman who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
There will be a viewing on Friday, May 6, 2016 from 5-8 p. m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa. Friends are asked to assemble at the church on Saturday at approximately 10:45 a. m.

A celebration of life service for 1st Lady Arsie Lee Mabry Sims, will be held on Friday, May6,2016at10a.m.atSt. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, 3708 E. Lake Avenue, Tampa, Rev. W. D. Sims, pas- tor, with Rev. Dr. Bartholomew Banks, Sr. of St. John Progressive M. B. Church, presiding. Entomb- ment will follow in a local cemetery.
Transitioning prior to her appointed time was: her fa- ther, Oscar Mabry; brothers, Oscar Mabry and Artist Mabry; along with a number of other family members.
1st Lady Sims leaves to grieve her departure: a loving and protective husband/pas- tor Reverend W. D. Sims; 3 daughters and 8 grandchil- dren: Kimberly Shantrice An- derson and her children, Caiden, Jace and Averie; Em- meral LaDon Jones and her children, Alyssa, Aidan and Auriel; Kandy Terrell (Robert) Lee and her chil- dren, Tyreke and Tyrell; mommie, Mrs. Ivory Lee Mabry; mother-in-law, Mrs. Emmeral A. Latimer; father- in-law, Ernest Sims, Jr.; sib- lings Cassandra (Dennis) McCain, Dwight Loray, Patri- cia (Johnny) Jones, and Tracey (Fred) Rentz; siblings- in-law, Evelyn (Marion) Bankhead, Deacon Earnest L. (Jo Ann) Sims, Deacon Roger (Yvonne) Sims, Linda J. (James) Lassiter, and Juleian M. (Secreta) Sims; a very spe- cial auntie, Mrs. Juanita Mc- Cauley (Bishop Lewis) Brown; uncles and aunties, CSM Willie (Charessa) Mabry, Jr., Elder George (Carolyn) Mabry, Ulysee (Lamoria) Taylor; Mary (Christopher) McIntosh, and Mary Gainey; uncles and aun- ties-in-law, Dr. Simon O. (Verna) Johnson, Ruby Lee Johnson, Eunice V. Mays, Daisy L. Spates, and Knolton Sims; a special cousin, 1st Lady Linda McMillan; and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
In addition, she leaves to grieve her departure: several godchildren, some of whom are: Tiffany Coleman, Arsy Upshaw, Aaliyah Harris and others.
Grieving the transition of their First Lady are the loving members of the Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, where she actively ministered for 21 years and will continue as long as her husband remains as Over- seer.
Also grieving are the con- stituents (especially the Min- isters’ Wives and Widows Council) across the Florida Missionary Baptist Associa- tions, the Progressive M & E Baptist State Convention of Florida, Inc., and the National Baptist Convention of Amer-
ica International, Inc., along with a host of former class- mates and friends.
1st Lady Arsie Lee Mabry Sims, affectionately known by her husband as Precious, was born to loving and caring par- ents, Mr. Oscar and Mrs. Ivory Lee Mabry in Braden- ton, FL.
She served faithfully as a Christian in several churches during her earthly journey. At St. Matthew M. B. Church she was an inaugural instruc- tor and part of the team that organized several organiza- tions within the church.
There will be a viewing on Thursday, May 5, 2016 from 5-7 p. m. and a formal wake service from 7-8 p. m. at St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.
Friends are asked to as- semble at the church on Fri- day at approximately 9:45 a. m. for the service.
