Hereditary - When the elder mother of the Graham family passes away, her daughter’s family (Toni Collette) begins to unravel terryfying secrets about their ancestry. This film was really disturbing based on how mental illness can have you hallucinating. Made $15M (budget- N/A)- ****
Upgrade - A deadly hijacking leaves Grey Trace (Logan Marshall-Green) paralyzed and his wife in a coma. A billionaire inventor ( Harrison Gilbertson) implant a device called STEM that will almost make Grey superhuman. He later uses his powers to seek revenge. Director Leigh Whannell did a great job keep- ing this gory, sci-fi thriller moving and fun. Must see for sci-fi fans. Made $9M (budget-N/A)- Classic
Solo: A Star Wars Story - Director Ron Howard (American Made) takes you on an adventure with a younger Hans Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) and his future copilot Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo). The Crew later encounters Lando Calrissan (Donald Glover-Childish Gambino), Oi’ra (Emilia Clarke) and Beckett (Woody Harrelson) on a life or death journey against the underworld. Very good storyline with one small setback of Hans’ face looking the same after all the fight scenes. Still enjoyed it. Made - $178M- U.S./ for- eign- $136M- (budget -N/A)- ***1/2
Deadpool 2 - Mutant mercenary Deadpool- Wade Wilson( Ryan Reynolds) brings together a team of hand-picked mutant warriors (Zazie Beetz, Brad Pitt, Terry Crews} to protect a young boy of supernatural powers ( Julian Dennison) from the time-traveling killing machine Cable (Josh Brolin). Action-packed, violent, with plenty of quick wit humor. Must- see for action fans. Enjoyed It! Made - $280M-U.S./ For- eign- $376M-(budget-$110M)- ****
Breaking In - A woman (Gabrielle Union Wade) fights to protect kids (Ajiona Alexus, Seth Carr) dur- ing a home invasion (Bill Burke). Produced by St. Pete native Will Packer (Think Like A Man, Girls Trip) and directed by James McTeigue, this thriller jumped right into the action. Gabrielle did a great job making this film believable. Must see for action, thriller fans. 1hr./28mins. Made - 42M (budget- $$6M)- ****
Avengers: Infinity War - The Avengers and their allies ( Ironman- Robert Downey, Jr., Thor-Chris Hemsworth, Hulk- Mark Ruffalo, Captain America- Chris Evans, Doctor Strange- Benedict Cumberbatch, Black Widow- Scarlett Johansson, Vision- Paul Bettany, Scarlet Witch-Elizabeth Olsen, Black Panther- Chadwick Boseman, War Machine- Don Cheadle, Star Lord-Chris Pratt, Gamora-Zoe Saldana, Drax- Dave Bautista, Rocket(voice) Bradley Cooper, Groot(voice) Vin Diesel, Spider-Man- Tom Holland, Falcon- An- thony Mackie and Winter Soldier- Sebastian Stan) must come together in order to defeat the most powerful Marvel villian of all, Thanos(Josh Brolin). The brutal Thanos is seeking the infinity stones to destroy all of mankind and the Universe. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo put together the most violent Marvel film of all. Must-see for Marvel fans. Will break all of the box office records. 2hrs/30mins long. Made - $656M- U.S/ $1.3B-foreign-(budgetN/A)- Amazing on how they brought everything together for a Part 2. Classic
A Quiet Place (2018) - A cautious family (Emily Blunt, John Krasinski) is forced to livee in silence while hiding from creatures that kill by sound. Star/ Director John Krasinkski and his real life wife Emily Blunt deliver on this original concept drama/ horror thriller. Must-see for originality and drama. Made - $185M- U.S./ foreign- $138M -(budget- $17M)- four out of four stars.
Black Panther - African-American director Ryan Coogler has made the first Marvel film that should win an Oscar for Best Picture, screenwriters, male actor (Chadwick Boseman) and supporting actor (Michael B. Jordan). Yeah, I'm the first to say it! Boseman (Black Panther) is T'Challa, the King of Wakanda, must protect his isolated, technologically advanced African nation from villains Erik Killmonger (Jordan), Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis- played Caesar-Ape and Gollum-Lord Of the Rings), Tribe Leader M'Baku (Winston Duke) and W'Kabi (Daniel Kaluuya- Get Out). With the support of his tech wiz little sis- ter, Shuri (Letitia Wright), female general, Okoye (Danui Gurira), friend, Nakia(Lupita Nyong'o), CIA agent, Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), Mother, (Angela Bassett) and Zuri (Forest Whitaker), T'Challa (Black Panther) will need all the help to stop the villians and fight to the death for his nation. This was a well-written story by director Ryan Coogler and Joe Robert Cole. Black Panther smashed the box office by bringing in $192 million in three days and becoming the fifth biggest opening of all time. All hail the King! Made - $699 million U.
