        Dead Right

        KEY SELLING POINTS

An act of collective suicide is at the heart of this novel. Unravelling the mystery of why opens a window into
the tangled lives of the four main female characters and offers a unique perspective on the Troubles in
          Northern Ireland.
The story provides an insight into the psychology of radicalism and how strongly held beliefs can lead to
and be used to justify extreme actions.

Three middle-aged sisters and their elderly aunt decide to starve themselves to death, barricading themselves
in a suburban house to face their slow painful end.

Dead Right reveals that the women’s commitment to their religious faith, to family and to love led to a course
of action they felt to be right but that ultimately left three of them dead and one at death’s door.

The novel explores the complex relationships between these women, their fears and motivations and how the
men in their lives – the domineering father; the weak, immature brother and the abusive, unfaithful husband –
alienated and motivated them, inspiring and moulding their plans. Their story unfolds against the turbulent
events in Northern Ireland and the wider world in the early 2000’s.

Critical to understanding these horrific events is the survivor, one of the sisters and the only person who knows
the truth about what happened inside the house. Can she be trusted as a reliable witness?
