Chancellor of National University of
Malaysia
D.Y.M.M Tuanku Ja'afar was appointed Chancellor of the National University of Malaysia on April 16, 1976. He
was appointed and held the position of Chancellor for 32 years. He is very active in various academic and sports
programs of the university and works well with the university community. During his presidency, held a
memorandum between the Malay Cricket Association of Malaysia to upgrade the quality of cricket SMEs and
honing young talents who are capable. In addition, various progress has been made at the UKM Bangi Campus and
HUKM Cheras to upgrade the infrastructure for student and consumer convenience. During Tuanku Ja'afar's
presentation, UKM has achieved many important successes such as:
1. Appointment as a research university. There are only four research universities in Malaysia.
2. Establishment of the Genome Institute of Malaysia and the Global Institute of Health, United Nations
University
3. Listed in Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) and ranked highest in 2006 compared to other universities
in Malaysia.
4. The recipient of the Prime Minister's Award in 2006.
5. Who has succeeded in bringing SMEs to the forefront in achieving national and international excellence and
