TODD KAUFMAN
I said, “So Lars, what would you have to do in the next thirty days to make sure you nailed it and made your million bucks?” I asked.
“Practice, Todd, practice,” He said. “I would practice like crazy. My buds and I would live on that field and my coach would be all over it too!”
“So you would intentionally hit the field 24/7, practice like a world class athlete, and your coach would back you up with some pretty strong support?”
“Absolutely,” Lars responded.
And with that conversation, Lars and I had unpacked the most important three things you need to know about neuroplasticity.
Lars would intentionally hit the practice field, repeatedly kick the football with this right foot, and surround himself with buddies and coaches that would encourage his success, in turn giving him a solid feeling of reward. When these three elements are in place, neuroplastic change most successfully occurs.
Intention, Repetition and Reward
(Please say that out loud right now! And it is best to repeat it a few times!)
You, just by reading this book, are actually making an Intentional decision to participate in a process that creates internal change. And congratulations for that investment in Repetition just a moment ago – it makes a difference to your ability to end panic attacks and manage anxiety. Well done. Did you notice that Reward I slipped in there? Notice the feeling of Reward you may be experiencing at this moment. That’s the powerful triumvirate: Intention, Repetition and Reward.
