 Chapter Seven GRATITUDE
THERAPY
If I had to pick just one therapy that has had the biggest, lon- gest impact in my life and in the lives of my clients, it would absolutely be Gratitude Therapy. I have used this form of ther-
apy for individuals, couples, people with PTSD, anxiety and de- pression, and heck, I think just about every one of my clients has had some form Gratitude Therapy in their personal care program!
Since you have been reading carefully, you have likely already figured out why. Gratitude is a key component to neuroplastic change, and we refer to it as Reward. If you want change, you need to always pay attention to those three underlying components. (Do I have to repeat this one again?!)
The intention of Gratitude Therapy is to rewire your brain to become a master at noticing the good stuff. We all have that one friend who can drive us a bit crazy with their constant positivity. Maybe they have a bubbly personality and at times can even seem detached from reality. I had a childhood friend Julia who was like this. She could show up hungry at a gourmet buffet
