  VITA / FINANCIAL OPPORTUNITIES CENTER (FOC)
▶ VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE (VITA)
VITA, is a program supported by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that provides people who make roughly $54,000 or less with free assistance in preparing tax returns. IRS-certified volunteers provide free income tax return preparation to eligible individuals and families. VITA sites can inform taxpayers about special tax credits for which they may qualify such as the Earned Income Tax Credit, Child Tax Credit and Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled.

▶ FINANCIAL OPPORTUNITIES CENTER (FOC)
The Financial Opportunities Center (FOC) helps families work past barriers by integrating services into one convenient location where families begin to build self-sufficiency, stabilize their finances and move toward economic success. FOCs focus on helping clients achieve long-term financial stability. Financial stability means that families have: 1) sufficient family income, 2) transferable job skills, 3) manageable expenses, 4) smart debt, 5) a post-secondary plan for their children, and 6) a realistic opportunity for retirement at 65. The collaborative partnership between Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC); Mott Community College (MCC) and GST Michigan Works! provides families with integrated services across three areas: 1) Employment placement and career improvement; 2) Financial education and coaching; and, 3) Public benefits access.
