Sisters is designed to provide unique content to an often overlooked
demographic, Gen X and Boomer black women. It offers fashion, health, career,
and relationship advice in a fun, relatable voice.
Q. What at the details of the Sisterhood Is Beautiful contest?
Sisters from AARP, a digital newsletter celebrating Gen-X and Baby Boomer
African American women, created and launched its “Sisterhood is Beautiful”
contest to celebrate friends that become family.
From Aug. 27 to Sept. 6, subscribers are encouraged to submit stories of up to
350 words describing the moment that transformed a friend into a cherished
sister-friend.
The top essay will win a girls’ trip to New York City (Nov. 14-16) inspired by the
beauty of that friendship and a Nov. 15 makeover for the pair with celebrity
makeup artist Sam Fine. His work has graced the faces of Halle Berry, Tyra Banks,
Naomi Campbell and Beyoncé.
Q. Why is Sisters doing this contest?
Sisters from AARP is celebrating its first anniversary by showcasing the friendships
that sustain our community of sisters.
We created the Sisterhood Is Beautiful contest because black women value and
celebrate the essential friend who becomes family and is there for us through
life’s highs and lows.
Q. Tell me more about the Sisters newsletter

and advice on the issues of greatest importance and relevance to them.
