This peer-nominated, peer-selected award recognizes students for their service, leadership, research and contributions to their class, the college, local community and/or the Osteopathic profession.
AUGUST 2019 Gilbert Hernandez
Class of 2022
Gilbert is a charismatic, giving person who embodies what it means to be an Osteopathic Medical Student at WesternU. He grew up in a medically underserved community, so he understands the extreme need and lack of health literacy that many people in the area possess. Gilbert was determined to help and give
back to his community. Gilbert orchestrated a free health fair called Get Up and Move. Gilbert understood that teaching the community about health management leads to effective lifestyle changes. Gilbert is a role model and inspiration for his peers and his positive attitude is contagious. His integrity and commitment make a meaningful difference in the lives around him.
SEPTEMBER 2019 Zachary Kay
Class of 2023
Zach goes above and beyond to help his class. He gives excellent advice and reassurance about what to expect during the first year. His knowledge of class material proved to be invaluable. On weekends; you can find him with a large crowd around him as he teaches difficult anatomy concepts needed for an
exam. He once spent hours in the OMM lab facilitating
a mock practical that he organized himself. He’s one of
the nicest, down to earth, most approachable students. In addition, he is always ready to help in any situation and has demonstrated selflessness and kindness since the start of this semester. He’s willing to help ensure everyone else passes the year alongside him.
