Eric Jing Hung Young Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Dr. Albert W. Young in tribute to his late son. This award is presented to a student who exhibits great academic promise, leadership, and a commitment to improving community health care.
Akshitha Thatiparthi
Class of 2021
Akshitha has volunteered across the globe. She developed her spirit for volunteerism as a child whose family was helped by volunteers. Her desire to pay it forward sent her to Honduras, India and other countries where medication and minor procedures were needed.
At her undergraduate institution,
she co-founded the local chapter of “Timmy Global Health Initiative” and learned to raise funds and recruit physicians. Here at WesternU, Akshitha gives her time to the Pomona Community Health Action Team (PCHAT) and the Montclair Clinic. Both groups provided free medical care to the local underserved community.
Francois T. Hoang Memorial Scholarship
The award was generously established by Dr. Anthony Hoang-Xuan, a 1991 COMP graduate who has a thriving dermatology practice in Chino, CA. This scholarship is presented to a student for outstanding community service, academic excellence, and an all-around nice personality.
Sangkyu Noh
Class of 2023
Sangkyu “Steven” has been volunteering his time to the homeless community since his undergraduate days at the University of California, Berkeley and at
the San Francisco Free Clinic.
He continued his work here at WesternU by joining both the Pomona Community Health Action
Team (PCHAT) and Pomona Homeless Outreach Project (PHOP). Steven has taken on leadership roles in both, and is the head of the PCHAT patient education committee. He also serves as the clinic coordinator for the Montclair Clinic and helps establish and maintain community partnerships. With all the help Steven gives, he still considers himself the “greater beneficiary” of these actions.
