From Crimea to the Stars: The Story of Saint Luke the Physician
by George Papageorgiou
Saint Luke was a true apostle, and confessor of Christ. He gave up everything, including his honor, independence, family life, prosperity, by confessing his faith and enduring the suffering of his people through martyrdom. Saint Luke was a remarkable man who blended his amazing talent for surgery, research, and drawing into a very influential personality. He had incredible physical endurance for work and during hardships, he was hard- working with a good work ethic, he was strong-willed, courageous, and kind- hearted, consistent, and responsible. He loved his people, especially those who suffered. Through all these traits, he was completely devoted to God, the Church, and his people.

Symeon Metaphrastes
Biography, Redaction, Theology
by Bishop Maxim (Vasiljević) Епископ Максим Васиљевић
The author offers a study of the hagio- graphic work of the famous Byzantine re- dactor of the lives of the saints and, based on the sources as well as contemporary studies, lays out a thorough investigation of the life, the philological methods, and the theology of Symeon Metaphrastes. From this investigation, we get a clear in- sight into the 10th century Metaphrastic Menologion’s theology of holiness. Ulti- mately, it outlines a hagiography that does not simply repeat given models and pas- sages, but rather articulates a theology of holiness that leads to a fruitful synthesis, a synthesis which underscores the way in which history and eschatology are inter- twined with theology, piety, monastic life, and the Church-state relationship.
