A Word from Our
Executive Director
My name is Mazal Shaul, Dr.
Mazal Shaul.
For over 20 years, I worked in
senior positions in the Chemical
and Medical Industries in
Israel. As deputy director of
manufacturing and development
in those fields, I never experienced
gender discrimination.
I always served in senior
positions, lead and could stand
for my rights.
I grew up in an “equal home”,
where my mother developed a
career as a senior nurse and
was my true role model. It was
my father who spent hours with
the children after school, and
attended teachers’ conferences.
In due time, I also built an “equal
home” of my own.
And in the same spirit and way,
I work today in my third term
as a Council Member in my
community. While fulfilling my
duties as a Council Member
i n m y L o c a l C o u n c i l , I fi r s t goals, because gender equality
didn’t give particular attention
or importance to the fact that
I am one woman among ten
fellow men. Only when I took
office as WePower’s Executive
Director did I fully comprehend
the depth of the gender gap
in Israel and the lack of equal
representation in decision-
making positions, especially
key positions in the public and
political arenas. I immediately
became a gatekeeper and activist
for gender equality. Today, I
understand the importance of
my position as a model for other
women, and I work to narrow the
gender gap in my city, Azor, in the
center of Israel.
I am extremely proud to lead
WePower, 20% of whose
graduates reached key positions,
run for and serve as Council
Members, Heads of Authorities
and even Members of the Israeli
Parliament.
For about two decades, WePower
has been training women and
advancing laws for gender
equality in the public and
political arenas. We will continue
to lead and speed up change in
the coming years for women
and girls, with resolution and
persistence until we reach our
is morally correct, and because
it is essential for a democratic
society that all women’s voices
will be heard where decisions
are actually made.
