physically, debilitating as ongoing sadness and depression. God,
well aware of this psychological reality, assures Cain that despite his
current depression and the constant attempts of the evil inclination
to deceive and seduce him, he can ultimately conquer his urges and
desires.
Jealousy, anger, and sadness are common emotions that many
people are forced to combat. The question is whether we rule over
them or whether we allow them to rule over us. Cain was overwhelmed
with these negative emotions and consequently murdered his brother.
At the beginning of the year, when we read this story, each person
should contemplate whether unconstructive feelings such as these
are still lingering within – even after all the prayers of the Ten Days
of Repentance have been said. If so, it is never too late to change.

According to tradition there are ten archetypal songs sung throughout
history. Naturally, the ten songs correspond to the ten sefirot and the
ten Divine utterances of creation. While countless songs have been
and will be sung over the course of history, these ten songs stand
out because each one was written in a state of Divine inspiration
or prophesy and was sung at a climatic moment in Jewish or world
history, a moment when an individual or the entire people of Israel
undergoes a transition, transformation, or revelation.
These songs reflect an acute awareness of God’s Providence, inspire
a feeling of mission and purpose, and evoke a sense of completion
and wholeness. The singer has clearly experienced a moment that
parallels those rare and unique moments in life when everything
seems to fall into place, when everything feels perfect, just as it

As mentioned above in “Blessed is the One Who Spoke,” the Rabbis
consider the Torah the blueprint of creation and its teachings
archetypal. In order to uncover the myriad levels of meaning
found in the biblical text, the Rabbis developed many interpretive
tools and methods. In the introduction, the PaRDeS method was
discussed at length; this section will highlight the highly sophisticated
mathematical code imbedded within the text. As a rule the numbers
appearing in the Torah are highly symbolic, but the Kabbalah takes
this further by frequently using gematria (numerology) to extract the
Torah’s hidden meanings and to reveal deep connections between
texts.
This section will elaborate on the highly significant ratio of 1:4,
which appears three times in the Torah’s account of the creations of
the Garden of Eden and Adam, the first human being:
These are the generations of the heaven and the earth when they

no herb of the field had yet sprouted, for God, God, had not sent
rain upon the earth and there was no man to work the soil. A mist

The 1:4 ratio occurs for the first time in the Hebrew letters of the
word for mist, ed (דא), which arises from the ground. The first letter,
alef, has the numerical value of one, and the second letter, dalet, has
