Helmet Strap Tightening Mechanism                                            INNOVATION PROJECTS

       The main aim of this study is to design a strap tightening mechanism for a motorcycle helmet which ensures that the
       helmet should not fly off the head during an accident. The mechanism is designed in Creo parametric modeling
       software and manufactured by various machining processes including 3D printing and machining. The developed
       mechanism was tested under impact and fatigue load according to Snell standards. It worked successfully under
       impact and upto 60,000 cycles under fatigue.

       Finite element analysis was done for stress analysis
       of the locking mechanism. The developed
       mechanism was successfully passed all the required
       tests. A mechanism has been designed with auto
       adjustable and self locking capabilities. The former
       ensures that the strap is adjusted automatically at
       the chinrest and the latter ensures that the helmet
       will be retained on the head during an accident.
