THE 4 CRITERIA INVESTIGATED
For each sample, we examined 100 RBCs at 400x and performed the following:
1. The search of >80% dysmorphic RBCs (Fasset 1982; De Santo 1987; Rath 1990)
2. The search of ≥40% dysmorphic RBCs (Van der Snoek 1994 & 1997; Huussen 2006)
3. The search of ≥5% acanthocytes/G1 cells (Köhler 1991; Kitamoto 1993; Lettgen & Wolmuth 1995; Dinda 1997)
4. The search of red blood cell casts* (classical and universally accepted criterion)
* On 50 microscopic fields at 160x
