WALkIN’ THE DOG
After a long day of hanging his head out the window into the wind, your four legged friend is going to want to hit the ground running when you reach SantaCruz. Your rstinstinctistohitthebeach,ditchtheleashandletRover catchsomewaves. Leashesarerequiredatthemajorityofthebeachesin town, so you will need to hit the surf with him. There are plenty of dog parks and a beach for off leash roaming.
West Cliff Drive Walkway
This popular two mile paved walking path winds along beautiful Santa Cruz coastline. Frequented by walkers, runners, bicyclists and of course, dogs. It is located on West Cliff Drive, north of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and south of Natural Bridges State Beach. While dogs are not allowed on either the Boardwalk or the State Beach, there is a dog beach along this path at Mitchell’s Cove Beach.
Henry Cowell State Park
Dogs are allowed in the picnic area, the campground, and on Pipeline Road, Graham Hill Trail, and Meadow Trail. They are not allowed on any other trails or interior roads. Dogs must be leashed. The park is near Felton on Highway 9 in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Forest of Nisene Marks
Dogs on leash are allowed in parts of this park. The dirt trail from the park entrance up to the bridge is the best hiking trail that allows dogs and it includes several trails that divert towards the creek so Rover can take a dip. Past the bridge dogs must remain on Aptos Creek Rd through the park. Aptos Creek Rd, Aptos.
Scotts Valley Dog Park
This off leash dog park is located in the Skypark complex next to the soccer elds. The dog park offers 1.2 fully enclosed acres which is divided into two sections. One section is for small dogs under 25 pounds, puppies or shy dogs. The other section is for all dogs but primarily for larger and more active dogs. Other amenities include water bowls, wading pools, tennis balls, other dog toys, drinking fountains, shaded seating, plastic bags and pooper scoopers. Bluebonnet Rd, Scotts Valley.
Polo Grounds Dog Park
This one acre off leash dog park is fenced and includes water and benches. Open during daylight hours. 2255 Huntington Ave. Aptos.
Watsonville Dog Park
The fenced dog park is about 1/3 of an acre. Located in the Pinto Lake County Park off of Green Valley Rd. at Dalton Lane in Watsonville.
DeLaveaga Park
There is a designated off leash area
off of the service road on Market St. Designated off-leash times are sunrise to sunset. Take Market St. past Gruenwald Court.
Frederick St. Park
The off leash area is clearly marked by signs and a split rail fence. Off-leash times are sunrise to sunset. The area is located at 168 Frederick St. (Frederick at Broadway).
Grant St Park
The off leash area is clearly marked with signs. Off leash times are sunrise to sunset. Located at 180 Grant St.
Mitchell’s Cove Beach
Dogs are allowed off leash before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m. The beach is located near West Cliff Drive and Almar Ave.
Pacheco Dog Dog Park
This area is completely fenced and the off leash times are sunrise to sunset. The area is located at Pacheco Ave. and Prospect Heights.
Ocean View Park
The off leash area is clearly marked with signs. Off leash times are sunrise to sunset. The area is located at 102 Ocean View Ave.
University Terrace Park
This area is fenced and off-leash times are sunrise to sunset. The designated off-leash area is located at the second entrance at Nobel Drive and Meder St.

NORTH COUNTY
Panther Beach
One mile south of Davenport lies this gorgeous beach that is not to be missed. Beautiful rock formations make this a breathtaking site to visit.
Davenport
Across from the whale-watching town of Davenport you will nd high, rugged cliffs topped with tall pines that provide a perfect viewing station from November through May for the whale migration.
Greyhound Rock
Bring your picnic to this restful, serene place conducive for communing with the ocean. There, you’ll discover surfers and shermen staking claim to the many coves, reefs and pocket beaches.
Waddell Creek State Beach
One mile south of the San Mateo County line you’ll nd this beach that is a magnet for surfers enjoying early morning glassy conditions with well-formed sandbars, to windsurfers, hang gliders, and kite surfers, who revel in the strong afternoon winds. It’s near the end of the “Skyline to Sea Trail” so hike into Big Basin State Park to catch some breathtaking views.
