Computer for the Blind is Looking for Computers
Lion David Jeppson Executive Director
Be on the lookout for an article in February edition of the Lion Magazine about Computers for the Blind and its partnership with Lions Clubs in District 2-X1 & 2-E2. It might even have a picture of your club donating computers! Needless to say, we could not serve our consumers without the amazing support you provide to us.
With your support we have been able to provide over 200 computers in the last two months alone! Unfortunately, with this volume we are experiencing a:
• Critically low shortage of flat screen monitors
• Serious shortage of laptops
• Shortage of desktops
Please keep them coming. Please ask your members to be on the look-out. We will pick them up at no cost to employers and those with 5 or more units. We ask that smaller donations be taken to one of our locations. Go to our website for locations (https://www.computersfortheblind.org). Please note that this list has changed as we dropped a couple of sites and added one new one.
Although we wipe the hard-drives, the donor can remove them if they prefer.
Thank you for your financial support as well. We only need $2,700 by Dec. 31 to get our 1$ for 1$ match with Communities of Texas Foundation.
11,473 computers and counting! Opening Worlds – One Computer at a Time
Sachse Combines their Efforts
With borrowed equipment the Sachse Lions Club spent a Saturday and set up at the local Sachse High School Craft Fair. The objective was two fold; fundraising for charity and membership. Their display drew a lot of people who heard the Lions story “TO SERVE”. The potential recruits heard about serving the local food pantry and
starting a garden for fresh produce. Sachse Lions Club also handed out brochures and then sold them pecans. They made a lot of friends with the eye on future recruits and made $550 for their effort. This is commonly known today as “multi-tasking”. The Sachse Lions Clubs just showed us how to do it.
(L-R) Lions President Maria Lucero and Membership Jenny Wood. Not shown but helped was Lions 2VDG Billy Ketner and Al Schroeder. The lazy dog was not identified.
