Volunteer Reception Center Training and Live Demo Practice
Lion Nia Mackay Dallas Oak Cliff
Ten Lions from District 2-X1 attending the first VRC training this year at the Dallas County Homeland Security Disaster Office on Sept. 29, 2018, from 9 to noon. The training was conducted by the District 2-X1 Lions Alert Program Chair and co-Chair Lions PCT Roy Chirayil (DFW Indian LC) and John McGinnis (Carrollton LC), respectively.
The training objective is to prepare us to setup and operate a VRC when called by ANY city in the area and any County. You also don’t have to be physically fit to volunteer at VCR since most work is done behind a table (sitting), but you do need to be trained, willing to come to exercise when there’s one with a Jurisdiction, AND be ready to immediately show up and work when there is a disaster.
The VRC exercise for all trained VRC was held on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018 at Richardson Huffines Recreation Center, from 11 AM to 4 PM attended by the City of Carrollton and Richardson representatives. The VRC has several stations: Greeters, Registration, Interview, Job Assignment, Safety Briefing, and Mapping/Job Training. A total of thirty five people attended the live practice. Besides non-Lion volunteers who signed up at
this VRC practice, some VRC Trainees also signed up as volunteers and went through the whole VRC process to gain experience and review the efficiency of the system, which they have to report by filling up a review feedback form at the end of the process. The overall feedbacks were discussed together with the VRC Committee to improve and streamline their procedures to a more efficient process.
