VINOD’S VIEWS
The Council of Governors meeting was held in Kerrville, Aug 2-4, which included 1VDG training also. The highlight of the event was IP Gudrun Yngvadottir as the guest speaker during the banquet and everyone had a chance to meet her during her visit at the training sessions. She is a charismatic Lion leader poised to have a successful year. I had an opportunity for a one day orientation of the Leader Dogs for the Blind, at Rochester Hills, Michigan. It is an impressive residential training facility for the blind. Clients have the opportunity to train with their guide dog empowering them with skills to live independently. This program is provided free to clients, including meals and housing during training. Please add this
to your list of charities to support. Texas Lions are more cognizant of LCIF as
evidenced by last years donation of $267,811 which is $10.47 per member. About
65% of the clubs participated. We should make this 100%. LCIF gave nearly $1
million for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts. All clubs should have an LCIF coordinator
to promote our foundation.
We now have a Lion’s Museum in Kerrville. There are videos to watch the history of Lionism, newspaper clipping, books, pictures, pins and more. It will contain whatever the Lions contribute for display. It is worth a visit during your next trip to Kerrville.

The month of August started with my trip to Kerrville for the meetings and events of the MD-2 Council of Governors and the Texas Lions Camp. I played in the Texas Lions Camp Golf
Tournament that raised $167,000+ for the TLC this year. This Tournament is now 25 years old and has raised over 1 million dollars for your Camp.
The MD-2 First Vice District Governor Council welcomed us Second Vice District Governors with a dinner and a lot of supplies to help us perform our roles for the next three years. I have to thank our First Vice District Governor Vinod Mathur and Lion Gloria Mathur for their great support. I met the President of Lions Clubs International, Gudrun Yngvadottir at several events in Kerrville. She is one of the most impressive individuals that I have ever met. District 2-X1 can be proud of their great Lion Leaders.
PDG John Landrum is the Council Chair for the 2018 – 2019 Council of Governors. I heard many favorable comments on his leadership at our Council sessions. PCC John Eads is the 2018
– 2019 President of the Executive Committee for the Texas Lions Camp. I also
heard many favorable comments on his first address to the Texas Lions Camp
Board Meeting on August 4. PDG Don Johnson is serving as Second Vice President of the MD-2 PDG Association this year.
Lions Roy Chirayil, A. P. Haridas, and John Joy received Presidential Awards from LCI President Gudrun at the PDG Association Banquet. IPDG Henry White was honored for his service as our District Governor in 2017 – 2018 (see photo page 4).
On August 15, I led the first Executive Council Meeting for 2018 – 2019. There was a lot of great sharing of service ideas and accomplishments by the District Lions who attended. In September, (Continued page 4)
