Julian C. Hyer Youth International Campers Stay Busy
The Seagoville Sunset Lions Club had the opportunity to sponsor the JC Hyer campers to a "Night at the Mesquite Championship Rodeo" July 14. Fun was had by all. The SSLC Lions who attended were Lions Gene LeFevers, Rita Claxton, Dennis and Cherie Childress, Diana Marshall, Ralph and JoAnn Page, Margie Thomas, Dusty McSpadden and daughter Suzanne and Judy Whitehead.
Walmart Wellness Day / American Diabetes Association
Lion Gloria Mathur – District 2-X1 Diabetes Awareness Chair
Lions from District 2-X1 and MD2 teamed up with American Diabetes Association (ADA) for Walmart Wellness Day. This collaboration of ADA & Walmart has the potential to reach to millions of people and provide guidance and support to people impacted by the disease. This is a nationwide event occurring once every four months.
The ADA goal is to provide awareness and resources for the continuum of care for people who complete their on site screening with a high – risk result. It allows the improvement of general wellness and to make a significant impact on the prevention of diabetes by identifying those who are at risk of diabetes.
Lions role is to bring awareness and sense of urgency to the
prevalence of this disease and act as American Diabetes Association (ADA) Ambassadors. Walmart Wellness Day features blood glucose screenings, wellness information , ADA fliers, vision screening as well as immunizations at select stores, and wellness related products such as glucometers.
On April 21st, there were 11 clubs participated in 12 Walmart store locations in North TX. (DFLC, Garland Evening, Irving Noon Day, Royce City, Carrolton Evening, Plano Evening, Wylie Evening, Seagoville, Greenville, De Soto and Midlothian Lions) There were 156 people referred for Diabetes screening in 12 Walmart location. July 21st , ( 3rd scheduled Walmart Wellness Day) , 12 clubs participated in 15 Walmart locations. ( DFLC, Seagoville, Garland Evening, Greenville, Irving Noon Day, Plano Evening, Grand Prairie Host, Richardson Host, Richardson Mid-day, Dallas White Rock, Royce City Lions). There were 300 people referred for Diabetes screening in 15 Walmart stores.
Last July 21st the enthusiastic Lion volunteers helped ADA reached over 200 Walmart stores ADA and Lions were able to be in communities reaching out individuals who may not otherwise reach and are able to identify those at risk .Thank you Lions!
