The professional choir from Temple Emanu-El, which has entertained the Oak Cliff Lions Club annually for many years, was once again gave its great performance on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017 at The OCLC’s regular Wednesday noon meeting. The choir consists of 17 singers, lead by Cantor Vicky Glikin, who not only have highly trained classical voices but who are some of the finest choral musicians in New York City. Directed by Chris Cook, the TE Choir Director, Oak Cliff Lions and guests attended the program enjoyed the intricate, sophisticated choral music beyond the scope of most other choir groups they’ve seen.
In recent years the TE Choir has toured extensively, both nationally and internationally. It has appeared at synagogues and in concert venues in Santa Fe, Tulsa, Washington, D.C.,
Toronto, and Mexico City. In Europe, the Choir has performed in major cities such as London, Dublin, Birmingham, Amsterdam, Paris, and Vienna. In 1984, the Choir made a concert tour of Israel, appearing both in Kibbutzim and cities throughout the country.
(DALLAS FILIPINO LIONS “FEED THE HUNGRY” from page 11) Kidney beans medley, fruits and water. While the DFLC and HDNP volunteers were setting up the tables, plates and dishes to serve, the lineup of homeless folks was already formed. About 400 people were served the delicious hot meal and some came for a second helping. Canned foods and Socks and other items were also distributed. The food serving was over before noon and folks went home satisfied.
Nearly 20% of Texans are food insecure, the condition of being unable to provide adequate food for all members of the household, due to lack of money or resources. This is a small way DFLC is helping fight hunger in Texas. Eradicating hunger is also a core service activity of the Lions.
