Keith's Komments
The month of February brings mixed feelings as we move into the final months of our current Lion’s year. We are down in membership but 21 clubs did not update their membership for the month. More concerning is that there are still 9 clubs that have not reported any activities this year. If you have recycled a pair of glasses you have met 2 of the diamonds for the service award.
Not only do we need to elect officers this month for next year, we also need to plan to attend the Texas Leadership Forum in Austin, the District convention in Carrollton and the State Convention in Corpus Christi.
Be sure to send in the nomination form to name a Grass Roots Lion (see pages 9 & 10) for your club. We need to recognize these newer Lions that have been active on the local level. Then send them with a big group from your club to the Saturday evening Grass Roots Banquet at the District Convention.
Finally, I am still working on filling the positions for the District Cabinet for next year. If you want to serve in some capacity, let me know. Join me, the vice governors, Cabinet Secretary Karen Johnson and Cabinet Treasurer John Stare in serving your district in 2018-2019.

As your centennial coordinator, I had to submit a final report on all the district 2-X1 clubs, regarding their participation in service activities including legacy projects and the membership challenge. I am proud to say 54 clubs have participated in various service activities. Of course that was over a three year period. It is still a significant achievement for our district that values service. We have served over 270,000 people exceeding our original goal. However, we seem to be lacking for the membership challenge. In the last three and half years, we have added 1253 new members, which is good, but we have dropped 1327 members. These membership drops have negated the growth. Clubs need to look hard into the reasons for these drops. I believe there is no single reason. It could be service projects, club
leadership, meetings or personal conflicts. These problems need to be identified
and corrected, for better membership retention.
March is the month for club’s elections for officers. PU101 needs to be submitted by April 15th. As part of leadership development, new members should be given an opportunity to serve in the club’s board and given responsibilities.
