Sixth grade is an important milestone at Ward- law. Entering the middle school, students have for the first time a different teacher for each subject. In addition, academic work becomes more rigorous. This year’s crop of sixth graders met the challenge and showed definite progress throughout the year.
Working to perfect their skills in English, sixth graders studied grammar intensively. They wrote numerous compositions, did a unit on poetry, and enjoyed stories from a new literature book. More difficult concepts of new math were learned; in science emphasis was placed on the study of living things. Students learned about South America and Africa in geography.
George W. Harris, Jr., and Roy A. Childers were sixth-grade representatives on the Junior Student Council.
