Determination and persistence characterized the girls’ varsity bas­ ketball team, which was led by coaches Mr. Everett Newcomb and Miss Beverly Baier. Despite the dis­ appointing record of 7-10, the girls never gave up. An outstanding ex­ ample of their relentless striving was the game against the top-ranked Oak Knoll team, when the girls made
a rousing comeback, after trailing 20-2 at the end of the first quar­ ter, to greatly narrow the margin. Commented senior Roxane Brown, “ We have finally gotten our act together this year. We work well together in the execution of certain plays and we are much more experi­ enced than we were last year.”
