LANT, MALKO LEAD WRESTLERS TO 4-3 SEASON
The varsity wrestling team ended a successful season with a record of 4-3.
"We had a very good season under the leadership of our seniors and with the help of some of our promising young wrestlers," said Coach Les Rudnyanszky.
The team was led by seniors Skott Lant and Kevin Malko. Malko finĀ ished with an impressive record of 10-3. Other standouts on the team this year included sophomore Joe Palumbo and freshman Nolan Sullivan.
The grapplers had some impressive wins this season, including victories over Highland Park, Hun, and Pennington.
Other highlights of the season included the team's excellent showing at the Conference Tournament. At the tournament, practically all of the wrestlers won medals and Lant came in first place taking the gold.
At the States Tournament, Sullivan, Palumbo, and Lant again wrestled very well and managed to finish in fourth place.
This year also marked a change in the coaching staff of the wrestling team. Mrs. Paula Gray shared the coaching responsibilities with Doc Rud, and by doing so she became the only female wrestling coach in the state.
Next year the wrestling team looks to surmount an imposing challenge in losing seniors Lant and Malko. However, they hope to make up their losses with the talent that abounds in the younger wrestlers.
