 To Cicero
Cicero, O Cicero, you’re a queer friend for I like you, yet I hate you;
From you I can’t be free.
1 like your stern inv^ective; I like your stirring plea;
I hate your way of putting things,— d'oo twined about for me !
I have to read your 'speeches, Thirty 1ines a day;
J have to keep a copy Of everything you say.
I hate to be tied down to you Throughout a busy year.
But still I’m glad I’ve had to learn About you, Marcus dear.
^ ou know how to make a sentence That is systematic, quite;
And when it comes to “ dicer” -ing \ ou’re really out of sight.
You’ve said some things that give a proof I hat you could lay a claim
me!
To have a copy of your head Placed in the Hall of Fame. T like you and I hate you.
And I begin to see
dTat do your worst or do your best. You’re a queer friend for me !
