 A Christmas Poem
Christmas again!
And all the rooms are decked With cheerful holly.
The crisp smell of balsam
Brings back bright memories Of days gone by,
While on the hearth
Great pine logs crackle, and the flames
Leap high.
The savory odors of Christmas dinner
Rise from the busy kitchen. Everywhere
Is warmth and light and cheer.
Far off in Armenia
The people drag their weary feet along the dusty roads; And well they know
That soon they too will join those starved wretches Whose lifeless bodies lie
Along the way.
You, in whose power it is
T o save the lives
Of those poor creatures in a far-off land, H ave made no effort.
Remember,
When you seek
To satisfy your nicest tastes With dainty food.
And gaze with joy
