GIRL'S TEnmS (6-5) PLACES 5TH in STATES
The girl netsters finished the season with the only winning varsity record this fall at 6-5. The team's season was cut short by hard rains at the beginning of the season. "Many of the rain-outs were definitely within reach and could have helped our record/' said team Co-Captain Christine Malalis. Playing at first singles for the third straight year was Barbara Ayres. Hillary Hare was solid at second singles. Neeta Sharma had to re-adjust herself from fine play at doubles for the last two years to handle 3rd singles play. Co-Captain Lara Selesner and partner Dana Willis held fast to the 1st singles spot and the sister sensation team of Christine and Carmelyn Malalis anchored the team at second singles. The Rams placed 5th in the HJ Prep B Conference and went on to place 5th in the State Tournament.
According to Coach Megan Keich, "I am enthusiastically looking forward to a great 1990 tennis season. Dane Willis improved greatly this year and should be a potent force next season. Also I might add that Peter Kaufman proved very helpful as a team manager this year."
