Mr. A. John Viviano heads the Driver Education Department.
Under the leadership of Mr. A. John Vi viano, driver education was very much expanded this year.
Taking the course were all tenth graders. This program consists of a thorough study and exam ination of the basic rules of the road. Coupled with this is the state defensive driving program.
Students took the state driving test in Febru ary which enabled them to drive at I6V2 under the direction of Mr. Viviano. Students would then only have to wait approximately ten days after their seventeenth birthday to obtain a reg
ular license.
In addition to going over the rules of the New
Jersey motor vehicle code and traffic laws, stu dents were taught in driver education to use common sense as well while driving on the road.

ART
“I'm not an artist; Fm a painter and a small stone sculptress. Fm also a teacher as well as a person," stated Miss Sheila A. Brady, new head of the largely expanded Wardlaw Art Department.
Miss Brady has been extremely enthusiastic about the success of this year's art department. Many projects, never before tried at Wardlaw. were done for the first time with excellent re sults. One of which was a movie of a psychedelic color adventure. A considerable amount of work was done in ceramics and pottery. This has been made possible through the contribution of a pot ter's wheel and kiln from Mr. Irving A. Flansen. father of a former Wardlaw pupil.
Under the instruction of Miss Brady, the various classes learned and did work in stone sculpturing, copper enameling, and the creation of large ceramic animals. During the course of the year, there were several art displays in downtown Plainfield. Several school artists did effective art work for the Beacon and the Maroon and Gold.
Next year's projects include various ideas al ready and successfully used, and some new ones which Miss Brady has alreadv begun to plan.
SHOP
In its second year. Shop is an active and popular course with the eighth grade. With the new power tools donated to the shop by the Mothers' Association (a bench saw and a router), the shop now has the potential to reach greater heights in education of Wardlaw students in the intricacies of practical experience with hand tools, both power and manual.
Shop serves as a welcome relief from regular academic studies. Making their own projects helps to improve the eighth graders with skills that will be helpful in the future.
