Wakodahatchee Wetlands is one
of the premier birding sites in Palm
Beach County. This site was developed by Palm Beach County Water Util- ities as the very rst created wetland in the county and was originally 56 acres of percolation ponds for the main water treatment facility. Utilities o cials, scientists, and biologists traveled to various parts of Florida to de- termine the viability of such a plan.
WGI’s Land Design Services Division was involved from the inception, cre- ating the master plan of the existing plant operations, future land use, the proposed site plan, and interpretive signage. The complexity of the project required public charettes to incorporate community opinion. WGI was hon- ored to receive the distinguished Environmental Sustainability Honor Award in 2009 for this innovative project.
