Jet ski rescued after
good cooperation between
Saba and St. Maarten
ARUBA TRAVELLER - Saturday, August 15 2015 THE Dutch Caribbean Coastguard received a
message Thursday that a jet ski had capsized
near the Windward Islands. The driver had left
from Saba to go to St. Maarten and halfway
he got into trouble. His engine died and the
jet ski was in danger of sinking.
The Dutch Caribbean Coastguard immedi-
ately contacted the Rescue and Coordination
Center Martinique, which is in charge of
rescue operations in this area. The French
Coast Guard, the Dutch Caribbean Coast-
guard, Search and Rescue Foundation and
the Royal Navy deployed their units to provide
assistance.
The jet ski was eventually spotted by an French
aircraft, which was very difficult because the
man had a dark life jacket on. The units were
directed to the location and the French Coast
Guard was the first to arrive. They took the
crew member aboard after which he was
transferred to the crew of the Super-RHIB of
the Dutch Caribbean Coastguard.
The FRISC of the Royal Navy took the jet ski
in tow. Together they sailed to the Coastguard
substation in Simpson Bay, St. Maarten,
where an ambulance was waiting for him.
The man was treated on the spot and is now
in good condition.
