Page 5 - Sophie's Christmas With Teddy & Mouse
P. 5
On the branches of the tree hung red and green apples and the little Christmas lights radiated a warm gentle glow over everyone.
Sam looked for his favourite Christmas decoration. “Look, over there!” A glass ball full of snow with a tiny snowman inside, his orange nose stuck boldly into the air.
Sophie crawled even deeper under her blankets and again she heard that strange sound. Tap tap, tap-tap. What could that be?
She sighed deeply and said to herself, “You’re a little big girl now, so you're not afraid of strange noises anymore."
She bravely pulled the blankets away and stepped onto the cold oor with her bare feet.
Tap tap, tap-tap. “EEEK!” She jumped and leapt back into bed.
In her haste to escape Sophie slipped over Teddy Bear and fell heavily, but luckily Teddy caught her.
She was a bit scared now, and shivering she felt tears drop from her red cheeks onto Teddy's nose.
“Oh Teddy, you're not scared at all are you?”
She lifted Teddy Bear up and together they cuddled and crawled deep under the blankets.
Sophie put her warm face on Teddy's soft fur and he gave her a big bear hug.
She was tired now, and after all the excitement Sophie drifted off to sleep again.
She dreamed about the robin she’d seen in the old apple tree yesterday. In her dream the bird ew over the snowman, who was hidden deep under the snow. His nose, a crooked orange carrot, poked out above the white pile of snow.
“Help!” the bird heard a muf ed cry, “Help!”
The Robin dived through the branches of the holly tree, full of frozen red berries. ‘Did I hear someone cry out?’ he twittered. Carefully the bird hopped towards the sound and heard it again, loud and clear this time.
“Help!” The Robin was trembling now, and hardly dared to move.
